  April Kurtyka

Bio

When I gave birth to my daughter, Ella, in April of 2000, my life changed. Not only was I blessed with my beautiful little girl, I also discovered the beauty of pregnancy and childbirth. Since then I have been pursuing my dream of working with expectant families empowering them to have a truly satisfying birth and postpartum experience.

As far as my educational training goes, I am an ICEA (International Childbirth Education Association) certified Childbirth Educator, Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Certified Hypnobabies Instructor, a Postpartum Doula and Placenta Encapsulation specialist.

My "real life" training includes being a Momma to my wonderful daughter (2000), my son (2009) and carrying twins as a Gestational Surrogate for an amazing family in 2006.

After being in this field for years, I know that Ive found my calling. I absolutely love what I do and I think that every family I work with can see that.

Placental Encapsulation

Why encapsulate your placenta?
“Baby blues” is a common occurrence – 80% of mothers experience it in the first days and weeks after giving birth.  Because it is so common, nothing is typically done about it until it worsens into a diagnosis of postpartum depression, at which time anti-depressants may be prescribed.  Anti-depressants, like almost all drugs, are passed to the baby through breastmilk, and mothers who don’t want to expose their babies to these medications are often faced with the decision to either stop breastfeeding or struggle with depression.  Women suffer through the baby blues almost as a rite of passage to motherhood – but it doesn’t have to be this way.

For more information on Placental Encapsulation see the Placental Encapsulation page.

Throughout my life I have been drawn to helping and serving others.  I believe our lives should be fulfilling and joyful and that all of us, no matter where we come from, have the capacity to achieve what we deserve.  In my practice I use traditional talk therapy, combined with art, music, and discussions of spirituality (when relevant) to help you unlock the strengths you didn't know you had and begin to use them to create the life you want to live.
